GRB39 GRENADE LAUNCHER; 8MM; In 1939, the Germans adopted an anti-tank rifle and designated it PzB39 or Panzer Busche 1939. It was a single shot, had a dropping block action and fired a round that had a 13mm casing with an 8mm bullet. The bullet was armor piercing and contained a tear gas pellet that, when fired into a tank, would release a pepper spray to drive the occupants out.
The PzB39s were not as effective as desired so they were sent back for modification into a grenade launching rifle. The barrel was shortened and threaded for a grenade launching cup. New sights were added to the left side of the receiver. The new parts had their own matching serial numbers and did not match the serial numbers of the original rifle. A plate was installed over the original maker code and PzB39 designation. After modification the rifle became a GrB39 or Grenate Busche 1939. A rifle grenade was fired using a 13mm x 8mm blank.,   |
