69 cal; poor bore, fair stock, 40.5'' barrel, An example of a converted M1816 3rd type to percussion from flintlock by US Arsenals circa 1840 and into the Civil War period. The original markings on the center of the lockplate read US/A WATERS with MILLBURY/1836 on the back end of the lockplate. The walnut stock has a faint inspectors cartouche on the left side flat. The tang of the buttplate is stamped U.S. The barrel is stamped on top next to the nipple with a legible W, and the barrel tang is stamped 1836. The barrel has been shortened about 1.5 inches. The original ramrod is present. The metal has surface rusting overall and is an even rust brown patina. There are areas of pitting, mostly aroung the nipple. The wood shows its age, with dings and a few small gouges and chips. There is a 5 inch crack on the left side of the stock. The action works fine, the nipple is a newer replacement.,
