LAOTIAN CEREMONIAL KNIFE LAOTIAN CEREMONIAL KNIFE
large Kukri style knife, intended for religious ceremonial use and used for sacrificing indigenous buffalo. Heavy hand forged steel blade is 26.5 inches in length and has etched gold decoration on one side and some hand engraved decoration on the other. Wooden handle of a beech type wood with rectangular bone inlay and two thin brass bands. Thin metal end cap/pommel. Over all length 33.25 inches. The blade has signs of sharpening and traces of gold paint along the upper edges. Two piece wooden scabbard with hand carved decoration and a single red colored stone. The top of the scabbard has two places for side knives, both of which are present. The scabbard has thin darkened hammered brass decoration over raised areas and on edges, and two thin metal bands, both possible later additions for extra support. Small sections of the brass trim on the edges is missing or damaged to a degree. And a small piece of the brass has detached, but is included for repair. Exact age is not known, a guess would be earlier 20th century.,
