45-70 Govt; 97% blue, very good bore, excellent stock, 32.5'' barrel, Manufactured from 1885-1890, with original blue finish, casehardened breechblock and tang and mounted in a walnut stock, with the distinguishing Buffington rear fully adjustable sight. Marked on the lockplate with the Eagle motif and U.S./SPRINGFIELD. The left side of the barrel has the VP over the eagles head proof with an A stamped on the top center of the chamber. The breechblock is marked U.S./MODEL/1884. The left side of the stock is stamped with a boxed script SWP/1889 cartouche and the bottom of the stock behind the trigger guard tang is stamped with a sharp script circled P firing proof. The buttplate tang is stamped U.S. and both barrel bands are stamped on the right side with a U. An original and proper variation cleaning rod is present. The original blue finish remains bright on this example, with some widely scattered and very minor spotting. The wood has some minor dings and handling marks, with sharp original markings. Includes an original later variation M1887 leather sling in very good serviceable condition. Mechanically fine. The bore has sharp strong rifling with some minor corrosion throughout., s/n 4597xx
