52 Cal; fair bore, fair stock, 22'' barrel, Marked on top of the barrel between the rear sight and breech NEW MODEL 1863, in front of the rear sight base SHARPS RIFLE/MANUFG. CO./HARTFORD CONN., on the left side of the frame C. SHARPS PAT./SEPT. 12TH 1848 and on the right side of the frame R.S. LAWRENCE PAT./APRIL 12TH 1859 with C. SHARPS' PAT./OCT. 5TH 1852 on the side of the lockplate. Original fixed front and ladder rear sight graduated to 800 yard and marked on top of the base with Lawrence patent markings. The rear sight is missing the elevation slider. Original walnut stock, has been lightly sanded at some point with a light coat of varnish applied at the time, now showing some wear. The inspector cartouches are visible on the left side of the stock under the saddle ring bar however are faint and illegible. The metal finish has turned light patina with minor spotting and pin prick pitting overall. The markings remain legible. The stock has a chip missing near the end of the upper tang, a large chip missing on the right side under the lockplate and a smaller chip missing on the left along the trigger guard tang. There is a hairline crack behind the end of the lockplate as well. The action works fine. The bore has strong rifling and some shine, showing areas of pitting throughout. Antique., s/n 963xx
