This is an original oil on canvas painting, done by an unkown artist. The original was done by Guillaume-Francois Colson. The painting depicts the arrival of Napoleon Bonaparte into Alexandria Egypt in 1798. History tells that Bonaparte gave an order to execute prisoners, which included women and children, as there was no way to imprison or feed them. However, this painting, as does the original, depicts Bonaparte as stopping the execution of the women and children. Antique mounted and framed. Exactly how old this particualr painting is we do not know, and we will not disassemble the mounting to check for a signature as this is a consignment item. The quality is very nice. There is some minor loss of paint on the canvas and some nicks and chips on the frame, mostly minor, as well as some cracks and splits on the frame.,
