8mm Mauser; 90% blue, Good bore, very good stock, 23.5'' barrel, A very late assembly K98k long side rail sniper rifle by Gustloff Werke. Phosphate finish with a few of the small parts having blued finish. Mounted in a laminated stock and handguard. Speculation is that this rifle is possibly assembled for commercial sale and/or made for U.S. personnel after the wars end, the bottom of the bolt handle shank having an eagle/N commercial proof. The numbered parts are all matching, which includes the bolt, upper and lower barrel bands, stock and handguard inside the barrel channel. The top of the receiver ring has one of the standard maker code and date code markings. The left side of the barrel has an eagle/swaz military acceptance test proof. The right side of the receiver ring is stamped with two illegible eagle proofs and a number 1. The right side of the rear sight base is stamped with an "a" and an eagle/18 proof. Disassembly reveals code markings on the bottom of the receiver "avk ca" and eagle/13 proof. Br code on the stock under the checkered buttplate. The trigger guard is a stamped variation marked on the front tang "qnw". The floorplated is a milled variation stamped with a number 1. The extended scope safety is eagle/655 proofed. The right side of the buttstock is stamped with an eagle/H and the bottom of the butt is stamped with an eagle/18 or 13 proof over a "c". The front sight has an original hood and an original cleaning rod is present. The scope mount is stamped on the side with an eagle/358 proof (this marking hard to make out) and on the bottom inside the dovetail with a number 5. The scope is an AJACK 4x90 serial numbered 52194 which has a post/crosshair reticle and excellent optics. Mechanically fine. The bore has shine and fairly sharp rifling, showing scattered areas of light corrosion. C&R/FFL, s/n 895xx
